The Teatro Comunale di Thiene is one of the few examples of Art Nouveau theatre architecture in Italy, with its richly decorated interior in the style of the period. After various vicissitudes, among which the proposal, fortunately not taken up, to demolish it in the 1970s, the theatre was restored and enlarged in the early 1980s, when new stage equipment was also installed.
In 2008 the local council approved the preliminary project, which was actually the general programme for the restoration of the theatre, to be carried out in several stages, with the aim of increasing its potential use. In 2012, during the first stage of the works, the three iron and glass marquises were built to protect the entrances on the main facade, the first stage in the construction of an external foyer to improve use of the internal spaces. The works in the hall itself were fundamental: the stage equipment was supplemented with a permanent director’s box in the gallery and all the spaces were altered to comply with regulations governing disabled access and fire protection.
