The church of SS. Quattro Coronati, along with the partially conserved monastery annex, is one of the few examples of still intact, late medieval architecture in the Marches region. The monastic complex, in a state of complete abandon with the roof beams in danger of collapse, has been taken back to its ancient monumental appearance by means of careful conservation of the building fabrics. Consolidation of the structural elements and improvement of the seismic characteristics have allowed the spaces that were once used as monk’s cells to be upgraded and reused as a small private residence consisting of four apartments. The original blocks of stone in the fifteenth-century doorway, found at the foot of this, have been recomposed and supplemented with new blocks of undressed stone, with the obvious wish to differentiate the new from the old, though without losing sight of a studied harmony of the composition. The works were completed by the ordered recomposition of the facade, by dismantling and reassembling the stone elements, and the reorganisation of the adjacent former courtyard, where a herb garden has been revived, being a typical element of monastic architecture.
