The Russian pavilion in the Giardini di Castello, Venice, dates from 1914 and was designed by the Russian architect Alexej Shchusev. It is a listed building, in accordance with D. Lgs. 42/2004, with two floors connected by an external staircase, which is the main access. There is another access on the ground floor and one to the long terrace that faces onto the lagoon, a unique characteristic of this pavilion that differentiates it from the others. The exhibition areas on the ground and first floors are not normally communicating, having independent accesses. But if required by the exhibition, it is possible to open the removable ceiling in the central hall, allowing an interior staircase connecting the two levels to be installed or the entire height simply left open, giving much versatility to the design choices of the staging.
The studio has been carrying out the stagings in the pavilion during the Art and Architecture Biennali since 2007, providing technical assistance in the adaptation of the spaces to the different exhibition requirements and in the organisation of the authorisation procedures needed to carry out the work.
