Synthesis of reconstructions, enlargements and alterations made over time, mirror of the urban changes in Vicenza city centre and the artistic currents prevailing over the four centuries since its construction, Palazzo Franco has attained a formal and distributional unity, though with stylistic differentiations.
The size of the floor area and the division of the property among the heirs required the drafting of a long-term maintenance, renovation and restoration plan. The programme was set off by meticulous inspection work, conceived in such a way as to be able to be integrated in time with subsequent further investigations, as required by the complexity of the building.
Rooms with walls decorated with frescoes, temperas, friezes and stuccoes, ceilings in painted wood decorated with mock ‘diamond’ ashlars or vegetal motifs, splendid alla Veneziana floors and wood, and contemporary furnishings make up the setting of the domestic life that continues to unfold in the spaces of the palazzo. Rooms that astonish visitors with their size and the beauty of the details typify the entire complex.
The need for innovation related to a change in lifestyles and the necessary coordination with conservative requirements and appreciation of the monument is the aim of the entire project, of which a single batch of work has so far been completed but will be followed over the years to come.
