The competition was aimed at designing a new space for the Rodari School, which included an entrance hall, the gymnasium, a multipurpose space on the first floor dedicated to activities such as dance, artistic gymnastics, etc., and a service block. Through the architectural structure and the material chosen, a dialogue is created between the city of Jesolo and the countryside, where the school is located. The architectural structure is compact both along the street side and the side adjacent to the school (east and south elevations). It is more open on the north and west sides through the use of large windows to promote the connection between the indoor and outdoor environment. The walls have been designed in brick cladding that recalls rural architecture and the remains of the ancient walls, located a few hundred meters from the school, thus creating a vibrant facade of chiaroscuro that changes over a 24-hour period. Thanks to the presence of the lights and especially the thin slits of light in the gymnasium and the large basement windows, a kind of decomposition of the space will be determined. A space in which the consistency of the materials used will stand out during the daytime and which will be light and barely perceptible during the night hours. Particular attention has been paid both to the selection of the mechanical systems, selected for efficiency, and to the choice of materials and finishes also selected with the goal of reducing maintenance costs.
